Past Continuous Tense เป็น tense
ที่ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นและดำเนินไปอยู่ในอดีต
หรือเกิดขึ้นและดำเนินไปอยู่ในช่วงใดช่วงหนึ่งในอดีต โดยมีรูปโครงสร้างคล้ายกับ present
continuous tense ต่างแต่
past continuous tense ใช้กริยาช่วย verb
to be รูป
was, were และเหตุการณ์ที่กล่าวถึงนั้นจบลงแล้ว
โครงสร้าง : Subject + was , were + Verb

ใช้กับประธานเอกพจน์รวมทั้ง

หลักการใช้ Past
Continuous Tense
1. ใช้เมื่อมีเหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ในอดีต โดยปกติจะมีคำบอกเวลาแสดงให้เห็นอยู่ด้วย เช่น
at six o’clock, at the time, last night an hour ago, this morning, all the
afternoon all night.

It was raining at 10 o’clock last night.

I was living abroad in 1987.

I was playing football at 4 pm. yesterday.

2. ใช้เมื่อมีเหตุการณ์
2 เหตุการณ์เกิดขึ้นในอดีต โดยที่เหตุการณ์หนึ่งได้กำลังดำเนินอยู่และในระหว่างนั้นมีอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งเกิดแทรกขึ้นมา ปกติจะมีconjunction

Verb to be ซึ่งมีโครงสร้างดังนี้
โครงสร้าง:
Subject + was, were + not + Verb1 ing.
(ประธาน + was,

ประโยค Past Continuous Tense เชิงคำถามและการตอบ
เมื่อต้องการแต่งประโยค Past Continuous Tense ให้มีความหมาย เชิงคำถามให้นำ Verb to be มาวางไว้หน้าประโยคและตอบด้วย Yes หรือ
No ซึ่งมีโครงสร้างดังนี้
โครงสร้าง : Was , Were + Subject + Verb 1 ing. ?
(Was, Were + ประธาน + กริยาช่อง 1 เติม ing?)
